Decades after 1984, middle-aged Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence find themselves once again as martial arts rivals at the All Valley Karate Tournament. During the original filming of The Karate Kid, the late director John G. The Cobra Kai team scoured the studio’s vault and found a wealth of never-before-seen clips that they were able to incorporate into the series through flashbacks.

One of them shows Zabka’s real-life mother standing in the stands from various angles, something that hadn’t been seen before until 2018. Ralph Macchio told Uproxx that there are three brand-new angles to the famous crane kick. Many people believe that Miyagi’s name on his tombstone is a continuity error, as in Karate Kid 4 (1994) he is given the name Keisuke, but it was actually previously on a plaque that Chozen gave him in Karate Kid 2 (1986).

This means that The Next Karate Kid changed his name, while Cobra Kai kept the name he was given earlier. Another interesting fact, however, is that the name given to him in The Karate Kid II was not his original name. Miyagi.

In the Ford key given to Daniel for his birthday, Miyagi’s name is Hideo. This series took me back to my childhood and how much I loved the movies and characters as I grew up. It was surprising how well the characters are updated and now engage the younger generation.
